US OF AFRICA - SOUNDTRACK

awadi1.jpg

I’m working on that great project/documentary called US of Africa (Les États-Unis d’Afrique) directed by Yanick Létourneau from Périphéria. Obviously, I’m working on the music. I’ll do the whole soundtrack for the movie and that’s very exciting and challenging. It will be my first time being involved in a projet like that.

The movie, a long-feature, to do a long-short story, is about Hip-Hop, about black leaders in Africa and North America, about social and political views, about Dakar, Johannesburg, Bronx, about hope, about a new vision and way more.

So last week I had a meeting to see some of the pre-edits and rushes. I feel very involved in the project since I know and met some of the key figures in the movie. I was in Burkina Faso when Norbert Zongo was killed/calcinated in 1998… It was such an intense and troubled period there… You can see Awadi (top picture), Smockey (just below) in the rushes, some of the best rappers from Africa that met long time ago.

PODCAST

Since September I started a series of podcast/selection for Bande à Part on Radio-Canada. It’s very nice because I can play all the music I like but not necessarily in a “dancing context”. I’m touching to a lot of genres of music, like usual, and the first five episodes are online. Download them :

ENEMIES REMIX WINNER !

concours_squirrel.jpg

Winner : Dub I.D.
Listen : HERE !

There were plenty of friendly soldiers on the front line and it wasn’t easy to decide who used their best artillery when remixing Poirier’s dancefloor banger Enemies. However, the choice had to be made and the leading cadet is San Francisco’s Dub I.D., who won the contest with his melodic reggae take on Face-T’s acapella. Dub I.D.’s remix will be part of the digital album package of ‘RUNNING HIGH’, to be released in early 2010 Ninja Tune! He will also receive the three EP on vinyl which will makes the first CD of the double album Running High, as well as a CD copy of the album. Dub I.D., we salute you!
